1957 Started piano lessons.

1960 Enlisted in the regimental band Kings Shropshire Light Infantry. Trained in Light Division Junior Leaders musicians wing. Was solo clarinet player within a few weeks.

1961-62 Transferred to the Royal Military School of Music Kneller Hall Twickenham, as a junior leader musician. Studied with professors G.Garside on clarinet, and R.Tulip on piano.

1962 Joined the band in Germany and was made solo clarinet
within 3 weeks, which upset the band Sargeant Major as this was his job!

1962-69 Stayed with the band , touring Germany, Singapore, Japan,Korea, Lagos, Australia and Mauritius. Played at concerts, retreats, parades, governors mansions, dinner dances, you name it we did it !
Returned to England and played at Royal Tournaments, Cardiff Tattooo,
Aldershott Tattoo, Bournemouth and Eastbourne bandstands.


Professional playing career.

1970's Played in the famous Astor Club and other night clubs
in the west end.

Worked in holiday camps, clubs and with big bands.

Also had a few saxophone lessons with Tubby Hayes, the
great English saxophone player, just before he passed away.

1980's Started to teach saxophone, clarinet, flute and jazz piano.
Teaching privatley at home, and also teaching at Tonbridge Grammar School for Girls, and Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Girls.

Ran jazz courses for junior students, wind ensembles, saxophone and clarinet quartets and trios, and swing bands.


Now retired from schools, but still active teaching from home as a licensed Kent County Council music teacher, and playing with bands.
